Build Your Bones (Osteoporosis Class)

The ‘Build Your Bones’ classes are designed to improve the bone mineral density of participants diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia. It is also beneficial for participants wanting to prevent the onset of these conditions.

The ‘Build Your Bones’ program is based on the LIFTMOR research study conducted through Griffith University QLD, published in 2018. The recommendation is to perform supervised exercises consisting of weightbearing and progressive resistance to improve bone health.

The specific exercises performed within the exercise program are designed to:

  • increase bone mineral density at the femoral neck (hip) and lumbar spine
  • improve height through a reduction in kyphotic (rounded) posture
  • increase back extensor strength
  • improve daily functioning

Class Timetable

  • The ‘Build Your Bones’ program consists of twice weekly supervised exercise sessions (approx. 45 minutes) run over 12 weeks.
  • Iniital assessment 30 minutes – Please enquire at reception
  • It is recommended to continue beyond this timepoint to maximise ongoing bone health benefits
  • Location Soul Cafe @ Micky’s (Micky’s Group Fitness Gym): 5/1637 Main Rd, Research.
FEES
  • Initial Assessment (30min) – $95* ($85 for existing patients)
  • Cost per class – $35
  • 10 pre-paid sessions – $315

WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for exercising, including appropriate supportive footwear
  • Towel and drink bottle
